Banciao District Prosecutors Office Press Release

Banciao District Prosecutors Office has found a gangster clan headed by Mr. Tsai (nicknamed “windshield”) which is engaged in professional baseball gambling and non-performing loans pursuit has obtained vast illegitimate profits by illegally manipulating Chinese Professional Baseball League(CPBL) players to fix games chronically, and swindled gamblers who misjudge outcomes of baseball games to pay their stakes and consequently lose.
Prosecutors in anti-corruption group in this office directed Investigation Bureau Taipei branch to collect facts and evidence and discovered that from May to September, 2009 during the 20th season of CPBL, the clan frequently conspired players to intentionally lose games or control box scores by deliberate error, strikeout, walk, flyout, groundout, etc, so gambling ringleaders could deceive gamblers to gain enormous profits and afterwards distributed grafts to those players. After delicate investigation, prosecutors believed their involvement in deception and gambling was definite and evidence against them was substantial, so applied Banciao District Court for search warrant, directed investigators stationed in Taipei, Taichung, and Kauhsiung to search implicated persons’ domiciles and residences on October 26th, 2009 and summoned more than ten suspects. Prosecutors will thoroughly collect related evidence of this case and broaden the scope of investigation.
