2010.10.26  Banciao District Prosecutors Office Press Release

The First Case to Crack Down Cash Bribery on Vote in Taipei County by Prosecutors

Based upon the verified information regarding a candidate electing for the borough chief in Jhonghe City suspected of cash bribery on vote earlier in mid-October, Head prosecutor of Banciao District Prosecutors Office (BDPO) Wang, Nan- Jiun, together with prosecutor Huang, Yan-Hwun, Tseng, Kai-Yuan, Tseng, Yang-Lin, and Wu, Yu-Tseng, led police and investigators to search the campaign headquarter and the residences of the candidate and his campaign general manager in the early morning of October 25th. With surveillance camera files and bank account books found and seized, the candidate, his campaign general manager and heads of neighborhood, totaled 37 people, were summoned to BDPO. After interrogation, the campaign general manager confessed to cash bribery on vote, while 12 heads of neighborhood admitted they have received cash from NTD 2,000 to 5,000 as bribes. The candidate was later released on bail for NTD 100,000. Prosecutors will work tirelessly to continue the pursuit of the accomplices.

Prosecutors call upon candidates not to defy the law, and appeal to citizens not only to support the policy ‘Anti-Corruption via Anti-Bribery,’ but also to provide information against the candidates involved in bribery. Prosecutors also remind again the citizens of the theme “If you bribe me to vote, I will send you to jail.” Only by working together to refuse bribery on vote can we ever achieve a brighter and more beautiful future for New Taipei City.
